Term 2 Week 5 - Thursday 30 May 2024
Principal's Message
Gospel: Mark 14: 12-16, 22-26
Now on the first day of the unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the pasch, the disciples say to him: Whither wilt thou that we go, and prepare for thee to eat the pasch? And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith to them: Go ye into the city; and there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water, follow him; And whithersoever he shall go in, say to the master of the house, The master saith, Where is my refectory, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples? And he will shew you a large dining room furnished; and there prepare ye for us. And his disciples went their way, and came into the city; and they found as he had told them, and they prepared the pasch.
Pyjama Day tomorrow
As you would be aware, we are having a fund raiser tomorrow for our Winter appeal. The students have been invited to come in their pyjamas, with a gold coin donation. It looks as though the weather will be wet, however, can you please ensure that they are appropriately dressed for the season. Those students who don’t have warm winter pyjamas, might like to wear a tracksuit of their choice and a beanie.
Student and Staff illness
There are a few bugs going around which are impacting on our students and staff. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home, until they are on the mend.
Enrolment Period
Enrolment period continues throughout this term. We are taking enrolments in K, 1, and 4 – 6 for 2025. I have had the pleasure of meeting with many of our Kinder families and our Year 6 students have done a wonderful job as tour guides for all our visitors.
Lines of Communication
A reminder that the first point of call is always the classroom teacher. This includes anything to do with your child. Each of the members of the school executive have leadership responsibilities for specific sections of the school. Mrs Kerri Kerr is responsible for K-2 as well as Learning Support, Mr Brendan Mitchell is responsible for Years 3 and 4 and Mrs Kerrin Henderson is responsible for Years 5 and 6. Mrs Jessica Betterton is responsible for all things Religious Education, so these would be your next point of call. In the role of Assistant Principal, Mrs Kerrin Henderson is also responsible for Student wellbeing and pastoral care. I am always happy to meet with parents about anything, however, we like to try to solve issues/concerns at the local level in the first instance.
ELC Carpark
A friendly reminder that the car park at the front of the school is for ELC drop off and pick up at the start and end of school day. You are more than welcome to utilise this space outside of these hours, however, if we could keep it mainly for ELC parents, that would be great. The space closest to the front office, painted in orange lines is not a parking bay, it is an extension of the disabled space, allowing for wheel chair access.
Thank you for your ongoing support
Cameron

Rostrum
Today at St Jude's we held our school finals for the Rostrum ACT speaking competition for years 5 and 6. All 12 of our finalists spoke exceptionally well and our four independent judges were impressed by their articulation, projection and passion when speaking. In the end we could only put forward one winner to the next level of competition and one runner up who is on stand by if needed. We are very pleased to announce our winner as Eliza from Year 6 and our runner up as Sadie from Year 5.

Sports News
St Jude’s 2024 Walkathon – Friday 28 June
Our annual Walkathon will be held on Friday 28 June starting from St Jude’s school oval. Year 2-6 students will walk approximately 5km and ELC, Kinder and Year 1 students will walk 2km. The students will walk to St John Vianney’s School car park, via the concrete paths and underpasses. ELC, Kinder and Year 1 will walk the same route as Year 2-6 stopping halfway and returning to school.
Each class will dress in a ‘THEME’ determined in class with their class teacher i.e a colour, Disney, fruit, sports stars, crazy socks etc. Costumes will be simple, using items from home. We do not want parents to go out and buy costumes just for this event. Costumes will need to be suitable for walking in. Comfortable joggers and a hat are both compulsory. NO thongs, singlet shirts or slip on shoes please. Students are asked to come to school dressed in their costume and may wear their costume for the duration of the day or can change into their sports uniform after the Walkathon. A drink will be provided along the route for all students.
To keep the students safe we will need parent helpers along the route. Please consider joining in the fun and helping us out at the same time. Parents are also very welcome to walk the walkathon with their child/ren. Sorry, NO furry friends allowed! Please email kerrin.hendeson@cg.catholic.edu.au if you can assist. A special lunch meal deal will be offered for students to enjoy on the day. This will be offered through Qkr! shortly.
Students will receive their individual sponsorship forms on Monday. When seeking sponsorship we do not endorse students door knocking around your neighbourhood. Reaching out to family and family friends only is highly recommended.
Following the walk, students can return their sponsorship form and process payment via Qkr! is the preferred option. For every $10 returned, the children will receive a ticket in a raffle where prizes will be given out. The class who raises the most money (pro rata to numbers) will have a treat afternoon at school.
All money raised from the walkathon will be put towards refurbishing the school oval/outdoor learning spaces. We are hoping this will be a fun event for our school community.
South Weston Cross Country
Next Tuesday 4 June, St Jude's will be represented by 51 students at the South Weston Cross Country, Forest Park Stromlo. We wish everyone competing the best of luck. We ask that parents please sign their child/ren in and out of the front office if dropping off and picking up from school.
