Term 2 Week 6 - Thursday 6 June 2024
Principal's Message
Gospel: Mark 3: 20-35
And they come to a house, and the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. And when his friends had heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him. For they said: He is become mad. And the scribes who were come down from Jerusalem, said: He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of devils he casteth out devils. And after he had called them together, he said to them in parables: How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan be risen up against himself, he is divided, and cannot stand, but hath an end. No man can enter into the house of a strong man and rob him of his goods, unless he first bind the strong man, and then shall he plunder his house. Amen I say to you, that all sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and the blasphemies wherewith they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, shall never have forgiveness, but shall be guilty of an everlasting sin. Because they said: He hath an unclean spirit. And his mother and his brethren came; and standing without, sent unto him, calling him. And the multitude sat about him; and they say to him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And answering them, he said: Who is my mother and my brethren? And looking round about on them who sat about him, he saith: Behold my mother and my brethren. For whosoever shall do the will of God, he is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Pyjama and tracksuit Winter appeal
It was fantastic to see the high levels of support from all our students in relation to our Winter appeal fundraiser. Our Year 6 Peer leaders did a great job of facilitating this event. I would also like to thank our community for your generosity in relation to donating food items. Vinnies have made several collection runs.
NUDE Food day
Our first NUDE food day was held on Tuesday. About 80% of our students came with food that had no additional wrapping, a great response. All students took their rubbish home, which also had a significant impact on the amount of rubbish collected. Thank you to all our families who made that extra effort to pack NUDE lunch boxes. You have helped us remind the students of the importance of reducing rubbish, for the benefit of our planet. We will continue this each Tuesday. Thank you also to our Year 6 Peer leaders who instigated this initiative.
Kindergarten Gross Motor
Thank you to all our wonderful parent helpers who have continued to support our Kinder students in developing their Gross Motor skills. We could not achieve the high levels of growth without this support.
Excursions
Our Year 1 students visited Calthorpe’s House on yesterday and in the coming weeks our Year 3 students will head to the Glassworks, Year 4 are visiting Wildbark and Year 2 are organising a trip to the theatre. We have also continued to have Yoga for both students as part of their PE and as an option for staff during Wednesday lunchtime (my flexibility is being tested).
Enrolment Period
Enrolment period is officially closed, however, we will continue to accept applications in most year levels. We do have some year levels with waiting lists. If your child is leaving St Jude’s either soon or at the end of the year, can you please let the front office know as soon as possible.
Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP)
As you would be aware, to assist either in school or on excursion you need to present a valid WWVP card to the front office. These can be ordered through Access Canberra, and the application form can be completed online.
Fencing of St Jude’s
We have received final approval. Work will begin in the upcoming school holidays. Community Council will also begin the process of developing a plan for the upgrade of both the irrigation system and the oval. These are the focus of all CC fundraising and we have already made a great start with the school fete. The proceeds from the upcoming Walkathon will also go towards this project. The fencing of the school will enable our resources to be protected, outside of school hours, whilst also keeping our students safe during school hours.
Thank you for your ongoing support
Cameron

Vinnie's Winter Appeal
This Term we will be fundraising for St Vincent de Paul with the Vinnie's Winter Appeal. The contributions have been amazing! The final food collection will be on the 7th of June (tomorrow). A St Vincent de Paul representative attended parish mass with Years 5 and 6 today and expressed his thanks for our contributions. It's not too late to donate! Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Library News
Halfway through the term! Time flies.
Thank you to the students for motivated borrowing and regular returning of their chosen reading material each week. The face of a child holding a book they’re keen to read is a wonderful sight.
The Library is a warm, cosy place to enjoy the ‘play’ period at Lunch Time each day. Come on in and curl up with a pillow pet and enjoy a read, draw or play a board game. (A good time for senior classes to complete a few items on their Reading Olympic Challenge sheet, that require NF shelf information collection.)
Many thanks to Violet W and Felix Kfor the kind donations of pre-loved books.
Have a wonderful week,
Donna Gordon
Sports News
South Weston Cross Country
On Tuesday I had the pleasure of taking a fantastic group of 49 students to Stromlo Forest Park for the South Weston Cross Country. After a chilly start to the day, mother nature looked kindly on us producing ideal running conditions. I was so proud of the amazing effort of each and every St Jude's runner. We had some runners place in the top 10 of their age division, which means they will represent the South Weston cluster of schools at the ACT Championships next Friday 14 June at Stromlo Forest Park. Full list of results next week. (NB: Results will be posted on the School Sports ACT website hopefully within the coming days).
