Term 2 Week 8 - Thursday 20 June 2024
Principal's Message
Gospel Reading: Mark 4: 35-41
And he saith to them that day, when evening was come: Let us pass over to the other side. And sending away the multitude, they take him even as he was in the ship: and there were other ships with him. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that the ship was filled. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, sleeping upon a pillow; and they awake him, and say to him: Master, doth it not concern thee that we perish? And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Peace, be still. And the wind ceased: and there was made a great calm. And he said to them: Why are you fearful? have you not faith yet? And they feared exceedingly: and they said one to another: Who is this (thinkest thou) that both wind and sea obey him?

Classes 2025
Great news, CE have approve 3 Kindergarten classes for 2025. At this stage the classes will be around the 23 student mark. The number of other classes should stay similar to 2024, however, if your child wont be at St Jude’s in 2025 and you have not yet let the office know, please do so as soon as possible. We have student in several year levels on waiting lists.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Our PTIs start next week. The focus of these meetings is the Semester 1 report and goal setting for Semester 2. Thank you for making yourself available for these.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that the first day of Term 3 for students is the Tuesday. Camp Australia are offering a holiday program, which can also include the Monday. Staff will be involved in professional learning experiences at school on the Monday.
Departing Staff
I have both sad and happy news, let’s start with the sad. Mr Lachie Everston has been successful in gaining a full-time position at the Catholic Education Office, starting next week. Lachie has made significant contributions to the St Jude’s community and will be sad to go. We will still see him around occasionally and we wish him the very best in his new role working across the Archdiocese. We will farewell Lachie at this week’s Kinder assembly. Now to the good news, Mr Jake Kucher will be taking 2 weeks Paternity leave, with the arrival of his first born expected any day now. We wish Jake and his growing family all the very best, and we will share more news once the bub arrives.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Lost Property
If your child has any missing items please have a look through lost property which can be found in the senior corridor across from the library. Please make sure all items are clearly labeled so that they can be returned to their owner. Lost property that is labeled has been returned to owners today.
Late to school of a morning
We have noted a large number of students arriving late to school each day. While this is unavoidable at times due to appointments etc, it is important that your child/ren is at school to start the day with their class. It can be disruptive to their learning and even embarrassing for them to be late on a regular basis. Year 3-6 students go to different classrooms for Spelling Mastery each morning and as such are not in their regular classroom.
If your child arrives at school later than 8.50am they MUST be signed in though the front office. Please do not drop them off in the car park and leave them unsupervised. This is a matter of safety for your child. Teachers are already in their classrooms teaching and will not be looking for your child outside. Please do not walk your child/ren to their classroom, they must be signed in through the front office.
Your support in regard to this is greatly appreciated.

Illness
There are lots of illnesses in the community at the moment including Covid, RSV and influenza. As always, it is important to keep children at home if they are unwell and advise the ELC.

Stingray portfolios and reports were sent home yesterday, Turtle and Lobster portfolios and reports will be sent home tomorrow. Parent teacher interviews will be held over weeks 9 and 10. Booking sheets are on the classroom doors. Please return your child’s portfolio at the interview so that we can continue to build on their ELC learning journey.

As I have mentioned before, I am an avid listener to The Imperfects podcast which is run by the creators of The Resilience Project. I highly recommend listening to this week’s episode which discusses healthy boundaries and why understanding, implementing, and protecting heathy boundaries is good for all of us…even if it does feel a little awkward.
Library News
On Mondays, Book Club members meet in the Library to share a love of reading through lively conversations and activities. During this term, students have engaged in sharing individual likes and dislikes of books recently read. A current activity which is causing quite a buzz with the Year 5 members is, ‘Mystery Books’. Each student has borrowed a favourite title and is writing a blurb about this book in order to ‘sell’ it to another group member in Week 10. Great fun!
Below is a motivated group of Blurb Writers in Action.
