Term 2 Week 10 - Thursday 4 July 2024
Principal's Message
Gospel Reading: Mark 6: 1-6
And going out from thence, he went into his own country; and his disciples followed him. And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were in admiration at his doctrine, saying: How came this man by all these things? and what wisdom is this that is given to him, and such mighty works as are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, and Jude, and Simon? are not also his sisters here with us? And they were scandalized in regard of him. And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred. And he could not do any miracles there, only that he cured a few that were sick, laying his hands upon them. And he wondered because of their unbelief, and he went through the villages round about teaching.
Thank you
A very sincere thank you to all our staff. Our school is much better placed than most other schools in Canberra in relation to continuity of teachers in classrooms. Our staff absences are minimal, they will often put the wellbeing and learning of the students before their own self care. As you are aware, there is a significant teacher shortage across Australia. I am hoping that each of them find time to recharge over the break, however, I know that their high level of professionalism will also mean that they will spend time preparing for Term 3. Thank you also to our parents and carers for your support and understanding. We are fortunate to have such a caring community.
Fencing of St Jude’s
This has been an ongoing project for nearly 2 years. The key driver is student safety. You may have seen that they have begun to put in the uprights at the back of the oval. They will continue to work their way around the school boundary. The final installation will be the gates. Over this coming weekend, weather permitting, part of the car park will be closed off. This is to allow work to be done in relation to slope and drainage. This part of the project will be completed before the end of the holidays. I will share more information as it is available.
What can I do in the holidays to help my child?
- Minimise screen time,
- Have them read, every day,
- Rug them up and get them out and about,
- Have catch ups with friends, give them opportunities to be both with and away from you,
- Allow for some recharge time.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that the first day of Term 3 for students is the Tuesday, 23 July. Camp Australia are offering a holiday program, which can also include Monday, 22 July. Staff will be involved in professional learning experiences at school on the Monday.
Camp Australia
I have been informed by our before and after school provider, that there are spaces in both the morning and afternoon programs on each day. Please check out their website or call the school for contact details.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Walkathon
What a beautiful sunny day we had last Friday for our annual Walkathon. Everyone was pumped for the 2km and 5km walk with best friends in the sunshine. Thank you to parents for your amazing efforts with costumes, it was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm, which generated much excitement amongst the students. A huge thank you to Danni M, Pip S, Cathy B and Cathy S for assisting with the drink stations and checkpoint markers and to Sarah Mongos and her band of faithful helpers for the yummy sausage sizzle lunch.
Qkr! is the preferred payment method, however cash will be accepted at the front office. Please remember to return your child's sponsorship booklet with their full name and class written on the front. Students will receive 1 raffle ticket for every $10 raised. Raffle tickets will go into the walkathon prize draw. The prize draw will be held early Term 3. There will also be a special class activity for the class that raises the most money. This will be calculated pro rata.
It would be greatly appreciated if all money could please be returned to school by the end of week 2 Term 3. Thank you to families who have returned their money already and for your generosity. A reminder that all funds raised will go to the upgrade of both our irrigation system and our oval.
