Term 3 Week 9 - Thursday 19 September 2024
Principal's Message
Gospel Reading Mark 9:30-37
After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know, because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man will be delivered into the power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'
But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him. They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguing about on the road?'
They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest. So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himself last of all and servant of all.'
He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone who welcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'
Principal’s Conference
Cameron has been away this week attending the Trans-Tasman Principals’ Conference, along with over 1,000 Australian and New Zealand Principals, The conference is being held in Christchurch, New Zealand. Cameron has also taken the opportunity to visit several Primary schools who are using SHARP reading, (the reading program we use in Years 3 – 6). We look forward to hearing about his time in New Zealand on his return next Monday.
Term 4 Swimming Lessons
Over the past 2 years, the swimming program has almost doubled in cost. We have reached out to other suppliers and it appears as though this is common across most suppliers. As such, we will be modifying our program to the following:
Week 7 – Years K, 1 and 6 will be involved in 5 lessons, with each lesson 45 minutes
Week 8 – Years 2 – 5 will be involved in 5 lessons, with each lesson 45 minutes
45 minute lessons will ensure that the students have more time in the water than they did for a 30 minute lesson, overall we are only losing a little time. We have chosen the particular weeks as it will allow teaching and learning to continue in Years 2 – 5 for a longer period and those year levels involved in swimming for week 7 will then be able to work on the Nativity and Graduation during week 8. Please remember that these lessons will expose the students to swimming, they are not a guarantee of students having high levels of either water confidence or competence. We would encourage parents to also supplement this program.
We will be surveying our parents, before we lock in 2025 as we foresee another increase in costs passed on by the providers. This survey will be sent out during Term 4.
