Term 4 Week 1 - Thursday 17 October 2024
Principal's Message
I trust that you had an enjoyable break. With no Pupil free day, the students and staff have all settled back into the routine of learning and it is full steam ahead. Term 4 is the shortest term of the year and is packed full of wonderful opportunities to be involved.
This week’s Gospel is :
Mark 10: 35-45
And James and John the sons of Zebedee, come to him, saying: Master, we desire that whatsoever we shall ask, thou wouldst do it for us: But he said to them: What would you that I should do for you? And they said: Grant to us, that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory. And Jesus said to them: You know not what you ask. Can you drink of the chalice that I drink of: or be baptized with the baptism wherewith I am baptized? But they said to him: We can. And Jesus saith to them: You shall indeed drink of the chalice that I drink of: and with the baptism wherewith I am baptized, you shall be baptized. But to sit on my right hand, or on my left, is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared. And the ten hearing it, began to be much displeased at James and John. But Jesus calling them, saith to them: You know that they who seem to rule over the Gentiles, lord it over them: and their princes have power over them. But it is not so among you: but whosoever will be greater, shall be your minister. And whosoever will be first among you, shall be the servant of all. For the Son of man also is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a redemption for many.
Holiday Works
During the holiday period I had the opportunity to spend some a day on a Dingo turning over the playground mulch to ensure that it was nice and soft for the start of Term 4. I also had the pleasure of spreading 6m3 of Softfall and 3m3 of playground sand, although, with the strong winds, I’m not sure just how much sand is still in the pit.
We also had part 1 of the oval redevelopment completed. This involved some seriously heavy duty drilling machines, drilling a new line directly between the oval and Mulley street. This will replace the current line which runs down between the ELC and the school. The next stage of the plan involves the replacement of large goalposts, as well as further investigation of the goal squares in each of the goal mouths. The aim is for this to be done during the next school holidays.
As a result of our Term 3 lockdown drill, we recognised that each of the external doors were transparent. Generally, all windows can be blocked of with blinds. As such, we have had reflective film installed on the majority of doors, with just a few to be completed over the next few weeks.
Student’s departing St Jude’s at the end of 2024
I have been informed of a couple of families who are either moving interstate or overseas. Many of our year levels have waitlists and student numbers also impacts on budget and staffing. If you know that your children won’t be at St Jude’s in 2025, can you please contact Katrina or Renee in the front office as soon as possible.
Archdiocesan Assembly
The Archdiocesan Assembly is on this coming weekend. Beginning with Mass at St Christophers Cathedral on Friday night, followed by whole day event at St Clare’s and culminating at your Sunday parish Mass. Please keep all participants in your prayers.
Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year, looking forward to catching up with you, either around the school, across the BBQ on Saturday or at our Trivia night next weekend.
