Term 1 Week 8 - Thursday 27 March 2025
Principal's Message
This week’s Gospel:
Luke 15: 1-3,11-32
Now the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying: This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. And he spoke to them this parable, saying: And he said: A certain man had two sons:
And the younger of them said to his father: Father, give me the portion of substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his substance. And not many days after, the younger son, gathering all together, went abroad into a far country: and there wasted his substance, living riotously. And after he had spent all, there came a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want. And he went and cleaved to one of the citizens of that country. And he sent him into his farm to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks the swine did eat; and no man gave unto him. And returning to himself, he said: How many hired servants in my father’s house abound with bread, and I here perish with hunger? I will arise, and will go to my father, and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee: I am not worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And rising up he came to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and running to him fell upon his neck, and kissed him. And the son said to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, I am not now worthy to be called thy son. And the father said to his servants: Bring forth quickly the first robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and make merry: Because this my son was dead, and is come to life again: was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. Now his elder son was in the field, and when he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing: And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he said to him: Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe. And he was angry, and would not go in. His father therefore coming out began to entreat him. And he answering, said to his father: Behold, for so many years do I serve thee, and I have never transgressed thy commandment, and yet thou hast never given me a kid to make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son is come, who hath devoured his substance with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. But he said to him: Son, thou art always with me, and all I have is thine. But it was fit that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is come to life again; he was lost, and is found.
Athletics Carnival
A special thank you to Mr Mitchell, Mrs Henderson and Ms van Reesch, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their effort in creating such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved is deeply appreciated. The heat presented plenty of challenges, however, we were able to pivot to ensure that all students were able to participate to the best of their ability, remain hydrated, with plenty of sunscreen and cold water available.
Thank you to all who spectated, supported, and assisted with the carnival.
A busy end to the Term
Please consult with the calendar to see the upcoming events. There are 2 assemblies, several Holy Week liturgies as well as a couple of AFL carnivals for students. Many of the students are tired and teachers are adapting learning activities accordingly, however, if you feel as though your child might benefit from a wellbeing day at home, then you are in the best position to judge this.
Holiday Works
There are several holiday projects, including, the extension of the Butterfly room, stage 2 (goal squares and cricket pitches) of the oval plan, as well as the installation of a new irrigation system on the oval. You may have also seen digging up of pipes out the front, this is CE sorting our drainage system.
50th Anniversary Celebrations
These dates and events are in the calendar and displayed around the school, please spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested.
Open Day
Enrolment period is just around the corner and out open day will be held on Thursday May 1. Our wonderful Year 6 students will host school tours during the morning and evening. Enrolments are already open, via the school website.
Thank you for your ongoing support
Cameron

The Year of Hope
The core idea behind a Jubilee is to encourage people to live better lives, filled with kindness, compassion, and a deeper connection to something bigger than ourselves. For Catholics, hope is like a solid rock we can rely on, especially when things get tough. Being hope-filled means trusting that God’s got our backs, even when life throws curveballs. It’s about looking beyond the rough patches and believing in a bigger plan, one that’s filled with purpose and good things.
How can we make the world a better place?
When we’re anchored in this kind of hope, we not only stay positive ourselves but also become a source of strength and encouragement for others. It’s like having a light in the dark, guiding us through and helping us see that there’s always a way forward. By holding onto this hope, we’re not just finding our own path but also helping to lift others up and build a community where faith and optimism go hand in hand.
How do you lift others up in hope?

Happy Birthday Mary J and Marley M
What a busy week we have had at the ELC beginning with a visit from Ryka Ali on Monday morning where we explored indigenous culture through music, dance and stories. We then jumped straight on the bus for the St Jude’s Athletics carnival where we enjoyed track and field, an obstacle course and parachute games, and iceblocks to cool down afterwards. On Tuesday we had another bus trip, this time to SJV to join with St Jude’s and St John Vianney’s to celebrate our parish feast day of Our Lady of the Annunciation. We then had a picnic lunch and fun games and activities.

ELC Project Compassion Donations
Throughout Lent, we will focus on the importance of prayer and doing kind things for others, and we will be participating in Project Compassion to help people living in poverty. ELC families are invited to donate. Project Compassion boxes are located on the prayer table in each classroom and children will be able to contribute during morning class prayer.

Community Council
Fete Wrap Up
We are thrilled to share that, after settling the final invoices, we have raised approximately $44,000! This outstanding amount will be directed toward the uplifting of our school oval. The improvements will provide our students with a better and safer outdoor space for sports, play, and recreation – a gift that will benefit generations to come.
This week, we also held a Community Council meeting to reflect on the fete and gather valuable insights. By capturing the learnings from this year’s event, we aim to make future fetes just as successful, if not more so. A big thank you to all who attended and shared their feedback – your input is crucial in helping us continue to improve and build upon what we've achieved.
Year 6 Study Skills
We are pleased to announce that the Community Council has also made a contribution to our year 6 students’ preparation for high school by financially supporting the delivery of two seminars by Elevate Education. These seminars will cover important topics such as study skills and time management, ensuring that our students are equipped with the tools they need to transition smoothly into high school.
Parent Representatives
Now that the fete is over, I will be working to consolidate all the responses for the parent representative roles. Apologies for the delay in responding to those who have volunteered, but rest assured we will be in touch shortly to discuss the next steps and how you can get involved.
Many thanks,
Gemma Cabot
