This week’s Gospel
Gospel: John 14: 23-29
Jesus answered and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him. He that loveth me not, keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard, is not mine; but the Father’s who sent me. These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you. But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. You have heard that I said to you: I go away, and I come unto you. If you loved me, you would indeed be glad, because I go to the Father: for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it comes to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe.
50th Anniversary of St Jude’s School Celebration
It was wonderful to have the whole school share Mass and a cake last Friday. After mass all students were treated to a celebratory cupcake.
On Monday, 19 May, Year 5 and 6 then joined with our school church choir, past parents, students, teachers and representatives from Catholic Education to celebrate the official 50th Anniversary on the actual date – to celebrate Mass and enjoy a morning tea. This date coincided with the first day of school at St Judes in 1975.
We even featured in a Catholic Voice article, which can be accessed on this link.
Rostrum School Final
Rostrum gives our Year 5 and 6 students the opportunity to be involved in a formal public speaking opportunity. This morning we listened to 11 finalists who presented wonderful speeches. It was easy to see the huge amount of work that had gone into preparing, thank you to the families of these students for your support. Annie W was judged the winner and Archie R was runner up. Annie will progress to the district final. Congratulations again to all of our speakers and thank you to our judges.

Year 5 and 6 Girls AFL
Yesterday our 5/6 Girls AFL team participated in the Hannah Dunn Cup finals. I would like to thank Andrew and Pete, two of our dads for the fantastic job both of you did in preparing and coaching our team. The girls had progressed to the ACT final, and played with great energy, enthusiasm and skill. I was able to attend the final and was extremely proud of them. Five of our team have been selected in the U12 ACT AFL team, which will travel to Queensland later in the year. Thank you also to Mrs Henderson for supporting the team on the day. It was wonderful to see parents and grandparents at the ground supporting.
Manga
Some of our Year 5 and 6 students are passionate about reading Manga, which are Japanese graphic novels. Our school library purchases Manga appropriate for primary school readers. We are aware that some students have been bringing their own manga books to school but ask that these books do not have a rating over 12 years plus. It is important that we read and share age appropriate books at school and allow families to make their own choices at home.
Wonderful Learnings in Italian
It has been great to see the progress of students in learning Italian. Mrs Gibson has recently returned from a trip which included Italy. It is wonderful that this experience can be brought to life with the students. Our younger students have been learning the Very Hungry Caterpillar in Italian. Here is a photo of their wonderful creation. Thank you, Mrs Gibson, for all that you do.

Thank you for your continued support
Cameron

ELC NEWS
This week the ELC celebrated International Bee Day. A big thank you to Tony Laudenbach, who is a real-life beekeeper, for visiting the ELC to tell us all about bees and to give us a close-up look at some of the tools used in beekeeping. As well as dressing up in bee colours, the children were engaged in a range of bee-inspired activities, including craft, storytelling, and learning provocations that encouraged curiosity about the natural world.
The ELC also participated in the National Simultaneous Story Time where over 2 million children around the country read the same story at the same time. This year’s book was The Truck Cat which is about friendship, belonging and finding a home.
Cross Country – Friday 23 May
This Friday is the St Jude’s Cross Country (weather permitting). The ELC children will run a shorter course of around 250m around the school oval at around 10am. Please ensure that children are wearing appropriate running shoes with their ELC uniforms.

50th celebration
We have had 2 wonderful days celebrating our 50th anniversary! Last Friday the whole school celebrated with mass and cupcakes and on Monday we welcomed past and present students, staff and families to mark the day St Jude's opened, with a reflective mass and morning tea.
St Jude is the patron saint of hope, and celebrating our 50 years in the Year of Hope is a perfect reminder that hope must be our foundation for the present and the future. We must always seek hope in Christ, act with hope and most importantly, spread hope to others. Let Christ be our anchor.
Thank you to all who came, we look forward to continuing the celebrations with you in November!

CARITAS
Congratulations to 2 Green who raised the most money for CARITAS. Thank you to our whole community for supporting CARITAS this year, we were able to donate more than $600 to help CARITAS continue their work in supporting those living in poverty.
2 Green will celebrate with a Pizza lunch next week.

AFL Final
Yesterday our amazing Year 4/5/6 AFL Team competed at the ACT Hannah Dunn AFL Finals. The girls had 2 good wins in their first 2 games and a narrow loss in their third game against Holy Spirit, Nicholls. This great result meant the team qualified for the grand final. Once again the opposition was Holy Spirit. St Jude's was on top early in the game, with Holy Spirit fighting back in the second half to take out the game by 1 goal! It was an extremely hard fought game at the end of a tiring day. The girls were gallant in defeat and walked away positive about their amazing achievement - 2nd best team in the ACT!!!
A huge thanks to Andrew Brown for coaching the team and Peter Lilley for managing the team. It was a true team effort. St Jude's is very appreciative of the work both 'dads' have put into training and preparing the team for the day.
We are very proud of these amazing young ladies - wonderful role models in our school. Well done Edith, Sadie, Ashley, Abby, Emma, Eve, Lexie, Zara, Isla, Maddie, Aurora, Matilda, Amelia, Marlia.

Happy Birthday St Jude’s!
I was fortunate to be able to attend the celebration mass and morning tea on Monday, for the 50th anniversary of the opening of our wonderful school. I was able to address the attendees and I thought I would share these words.
When I asked my children what they love most about their school, their answer was simple—the people, especially the teachers. They talked about how supported they feel, how every teacher seems to know them and genuinely cares, even if they’ve never been in their classroom. I know many of those teachers are here today, so thank you—for the connections you build and the trust you inspire .St Jude’s is a school where community and care go hand in hand. My children feel safe here, and that sense of security gives them the confidence to take risks—whether it’s auditioning for the school musical, trying out for a sporting event, or simply raising their hand in class. That same spirit of belonging shines through in our community council events—the fete, trivia nights, BBQs—they’re all embraced so warmly because this school truly feels like home. It’s a special place, and I’m so proud to be part of it and forever grateful this is the school we belong to. Thank you again for being such a supportive school community!
Many thanks,
Gemma Cabot
