Today is National 'R U OK' day. A really timely message for all within our community.
Please reach out if you are not OK, especially if there is something someone can do about it.
We spend a large proportion of our time focussed on those close to us. Often to our own detriment.
Today’s message is 'R U REALLY OK?' It is also important that you acknowledge that what you are feeling is real and that it isn’t the same as anyone else.
Ask yourself, Listen to what you are feeling/thinking, work out a plan for moving forward (seek support) and then in the days/weeks/months to come do it all over again.
Remember, you can't look after others wellbeing if you are not looking after your own.
When it comes to talking to our children, it could be as simple as focussing on what is different at the moment, and how does that make them feel? Over the past few years our children have experienced the devastation and fear of what large scale bushfires can do, they may have seen death, destruction and negativity on a daily basis through our televised news or via the internet and they are currently experiencing the uncertainty of what a global pandemic means for them. Not every child is a deep thinker. However, we learn through the experience of being a parent or carer that every child asks questions.
It's ok to remind them that things are different and a bit challenging at the moment, yet as a community we are all working together to continue to make our world a safe place. It's ok to have age appropriate honest discussions and it's ok to make conscious decisions to protect our children from the current media overload. Please remember that our school counsellor Olivia is also available for support if you believe your children need it.
It is also important for our children to realise that there might also be members of their family who R not OK and that they play an important role in helping them.
On our school website we have included a number of resources with focus areas of cyber safety, resilience and supporting each other in the current COVID situation. These resources can be accessed via https://stjudesps.act.edu.au/learning-remotely
COVID Related Financial Challenges:
If COVID is impacting on your ability to meet your commitments with school fees, please contact Natalie at the front office. CE have created a process for families who are struggling financially to receive some relief.
MS Teams Meetings:
I have had the pleasure of dropping into a number of the MS Teams class meetings over the past fortnight. Today I had the pleasure of joining both the Year 6 and Year 3 classes as well as one of the Year 4 classes. It has been wonderful seeing all the children. Thank you again for all you are doing in relation to keeping your household functioning.
CAMP Australia Care:
Over the past 4 weeks, Camp Australia have continued to keep their programme open, to support the families of essential workers and vulnerable children, which has been fantastic. I am meeting with them tomorrow to discuss what a possible school holiday program might look like. Obviously this would need to fit within both the ACT Government and Catholic Education guidelines. I will share more information as decisions are made and we have clarity around the current lockdown.
I am aware of a few schools who have their school canteen creating reasonably priced meals which can be accessed for dinner. We are exploring this as an option and will circulate details once the menu, pricing and process for ordering are finalised.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to
We will be thinking of you all and wish you lots of fun as you celebrate your birthdays at home.
Your Birthday Award will be here for you to collect when you return to school.
From the beginning of next term we will be transitioning away from Szapp and will be communicating via the Compass App. This will be for us to send notifications to you and for you to use for absentee correspondence. Our staff have already been using Compass when marking the roll and are familiar with the system. This is a roll out from the Catholic Education Office and is a much easier and user friendly app.
We ask you to please download the app onto your phone/computer.
The app icon looks like this:
Students NOT Returning to St Jude's in 2022 (other than Year 6)
Happy Birthday Reetha and Ethan
This is the time of year we would be putting the finishing touches on our gnomes ready to display at Floriade this weekend. We ordered gnomes for each student before lockdown commenced and whilst the original Floriade may be cancelled, we couldn’t resist creating St Jude’s mini-Floriade in our own ELC gardens. Mrs Slatter has been very busy planting bulbs and we will decorate the bulb garden with our gnomes. If you have paints at home and would like your child to still participate in this adventure as a home learning treat, please contact the office to organise a non-contact collection time. Your child can paint their gnome and return it to display in our garden for the rest of the year for our St Jude’s community to enjoy.
Families will not use their 42 allowable absences during the lockdown period. Additional allowable absences will be available from 13 August until the end of the Commonwealth Hotspot declaration. Although absences may appear on your statements, they will be removed at a later stage.
Gap Fee Payments
Catholic Education Early Learning Centres in the ACT will waive all ‘gap fees’ for parents who keep their children at home during the lockdown period. This will take affect from Monday 23 August to add to the support for families during the ACT lockdown.
For children currently attending the ELC, the fee statements emailed today include any outstanding term fees plus Holiday Care bookings. For those children not attending the ELC at this time, we have processed the gap fee waiver for each of the last two weeks. This means you are effectively not charged for the days your child is not attending. If your statement includes a ‘due now’ amount, this is a balance outstanding from previous statements and prompt payment would be appreciated. However if you are experiencing financial difficulty due to the current lockdown, please contact the ELC office.
If you are on the ELC grounds, please remember you are required to register on the Check In CBR app and to wear a face mask at all times.
ELC Holiday Program
As current lockdown restrictions have been extended to Friday 17 September, we are uncertain what impact this will have on our holiday program. If lockdown is further extended into the holiday period, care will only be offered to children of essential works and vulnerable families. Please email the ELC office at email@example.com to inform your booking IF restrictions are lifted, this is required to ensure adequate staffing during this time. Please note that Holiday Program bookings cannot be accepted if term fees are outstanding.

Hello to all our St Jude’s families!
Children running out of reading books?
Want to get new material?
Well, the good news is that you can borrow from the Library simply by emailing me at school firstname.lastname@example.org with your requests (specific or general).
I will then package them up for you and leave them at the Front Office area for you to collect during the day. Easy!
I have had a number of satisified customers already and would love to include your family as well.
This would be a great thing to do with school holidays coming up at the end of next week!
Verna Comley - Librarian
Thank you for reading with your children every day! New Reader book packs will be available for pickup from this Friday, 10 September from the front office window. This new book pack is for the last week of school and over the holidays.
Please bring in the current book pack and we will swap the packs over. This way we will continue to have enough books to swap.
Please let me know if there is anything I can support you with. Happy reading!
