As the patron saint of fathers, Saint Joseph, heralds an idea of fatherhood. He loved, supported, provided and watched over Mary and Jesus, the deep anchor of this holy family. As we celebrate our own fathers, let us remember stepfathers and foster fathers, father figures and the fathers of faith who work in our dioceses and parishes.
Dear Parents and Carers
Students Leaving St Jude’s at the end of this year
If there are students not returning to St Jude’s for the 2021 school year, could I ask for this intention to be put in writing and sent to the front office. Planning for next year is underway and it is important for us to have accurate numbers for our planning. Please see the tear off slip at the end of this newsletter.
Kinder 2021 Interviews
I have been meeting with the parents and children who have applied to St Jude’s for Kindergarten next year. These meetings are a joyful occasion as the children commence the enrolment process. They are all bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to go. They have a well defined idea of what ‘school’ is like. I can see we will have a terrific group of Kinders next year.
A reminder to parents and carers to keep children at home if they are unwell or showing symptoms of a cold, etc. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure our school community remains healthy for our students, teachers and staff.
Please keep Amy R (5L) and her family in your thoughts and prayers, for the recent loss of her grandmother.
Dates to remember:
Scholastic Book Fair next week —
Thursday 3 September, 3pm to 5pm (families with surnames N – Z)
Father's Day Stall — Friday 4 September

Father's Day Stall
On Friday 4 September, St Jude’s is having a special Father’s Day stall. If you would like, your child/ren can bring in between $2-$5 to buy something for the father/s or father figure in their lives. Please put the money in a small envelope and bring it to school on Friday.
Please contact MSP Photography directly if you would like to place any further photo orders. Phone: 6255 9208 or email@example.com
Parking at Drop Off / Pick Up
As you enter our school car park, please remember that many people are moving in and around the area, so slow down and take your time.
A reminder to all families to refrain from using the Montessori car park as it is not designated for St Jude's. Please share this information with your family members. Thanks for your understanding.

On Tuesday 1 September, a number of students from St Jude’s received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Although it was much different to previous years due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was great to see the candidates take the next step in their faith journey. A big thank you to Father Michael for supporting the students during their preparation and leading the masses. Another big thank you to the Year 6 teaching team and our Youth Minister Coordinator Theresa for preparing the students. I ask that you keep these young people in your prayers as they continue to discover the gifts within themselves.
For all the Fathers in our community, we wish you all a happy Father’s Day. Here is a short prayer for you:
We give our thanks for the fathers in our lives. We ask that you continue to grant them wisdom and humility as they face the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You. In Your Holy name, O God, we pray.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported our Daffodil Day fundraising efforts last Friday. We were able to raise approximately $650 for cancer research. A special thank you to our SRC members who led the day and collected the funds. There are some great leadership skills there.

On Monday evening we finished another step of our Assessment and Rating journey. An assessor visited our preschool on Thursday, Friday and Monday. A report will be given to us within the next five weeks commenting on evidence seen during the visit on each of the seven quality areas.
National Quality Standard
The National Quality Standard (NQS) sets a high national benchmark for early childhood education and care and outside school hours care services in Australia.
The NQS includes seven quality areas that are important outcomes for children.
Services are assessed and rated by their regulatory authority against the NQS, and given a rating for each of the seven quality areas and an overall rating based on these results. For further information on the seven quality areas and the process please head to: https://www.acecqa.gov.au/nqf/national-quality-standard
We look forward to sharing the end result with you at the end of the process (term 4).
Entering the ELC via the Gate
Families, it is important that you know where your child is when you are waiting to enter the gate. For the safety of all, please ensure you child is entering in a calm manner. If your child is not calm, wait with your child until they are calm.
Next week we will celebrate Book Week. The theme this year is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. On Friday 11 September (Tuesday 8 September for the Stingrays) children are welcome to dress up as curious creatures or as their favourite book character and we will go for a parade around the primary school. Please ensure your child is able to freely move in their costume so that they can participate in active play and physical movement activities. Unfortunately, due to social distancing, parents are not invited to view the parade. We will take photos for you to enjoy.
Father’s Day / Special Persons Stall
The Father’s Day stall will be held tomorrow, Friday 4 September. The children are invited to bring along a few dollars in a labelled envelope to purchase a gift for someone special.
ELC Holiday Program
The ELC will be running a Holiday Program for ELC children in the upcoming school holidays. The program will be available from the ELC next week. Please email the ELC office firstname.lastname@example.org days you would like your child to attend.
The final account statement for term 3 was sent out today. We appreciate your efforts to ensure that term 3 fees are finalised by next Friday 11 September.

Leanne Thomas - Specialist Music Teacher
Our Book Week celebration is going to happen next week on Friday 11 September. Children will be able to dress up as a ‘curious creature’ or ‘wild mind’ or a favourite book character but our parade will look a little different due to the extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in.
There will be NO HALL parade as we usually do. Instead classes will parade singly around the inside corridors with lots of other classes watching from outside their rooms. Unfortunately, we will NOT be able to invite parents to watch due to COVID-19 restrictions and CE guidelines, so please take photos of your children at home, before they come to school. We will also take class photos on the day.

Father’s Day Stall – Tomorrow Friday 4 September
Please do not forget to send your children to school tomorrow with some money for the Father’s Day stall. Gifts are priced between $2 and $5. A very big thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help with the stall, and thank you to the Fundraising Committee for organising this event.
Fete Committee 2021
Yes, the 2021 fete is still a while away, but we will soon begin the planning stage. In past years, the Fete Committee has been very small and a heavy workload has fallen on a few people. Next year, we are aiming to expand the size of the committee in order to reduce the amount of work for those involved, but also to promote community engagement and encourage new ideas to come through. I will be advertising the specific roles in the very near future, however, if you think there is a job you would like to do, please email me at the address below. We are hoping that by starting early this year, we can avoid (some of) the chaos of starting the school year in 2021.
I would encourage all parents at the school to reach out to me by email or discussion at the Community Council meetings, any issues at the school that you think could use improvement. The Community Council can only act on issues we are aware of.
Charlotte Dalton - Community Council Chair
On Friday 28 August, we celebrated 100 days of Kindergarten with the Kinder children. We had a great day pretending to be 100 years old. We even had time for the oldies to bust a move at a Disco! They sure do have some great dance moves. Thank you to our parents for helping to prepare the fabulous costumes for the day.
