- Students not returning to St Jude's in 2021
Students Leaving St Jude’s at the End of this Year
If there are students not returning to St Jude’s for the 2021 school year, could I ask for this intention to be put in writing and sent to the front office. Planning for next year is underway and it is important for us to have accurate numbers for our planning. Please see the tear off slip at the end of this newsletter.
We have a school counsellor available each Friday from 9.00am to 3.00pm at school. Children can be referred to the counsellor by a parent or a teacher. Referral forms can be picked up from the front office. Alternately, if parents would rather have a chat with our counsellor as opposed to filling out a form, you are most welcome to call the front office during the above time to speak to our counsellor.
A reminder to please take your time and drive slowly and with caution when entering and exiting the school premises. Please slow down at the school crossing located near the hall entrance. Families and staff members use this crossing, so please be vigilant at all times.
Be Ready for School
Make sure your child/ren start each day well. That means they should get a good night’s sleep, have a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time with all their learning requirements as well as a healthy lunch.
Dates to remember:
Book Week Parade (students only) — Friday 11 September
Year 6 Musical (Year 6 only) — Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 September
A Message from the Taylor family
The Taylor family wish to express their sincere thanks for all prayers and thoughts and the care and support extended to them following the recent passing of Lawson (6GC) and Hudson’s (3M) maternal grandmother.

Youth Ministry – Retreats
The Year 6 Youth Ministry Team have been busily preparing to lead retreats for the younger students. These retreats will provide an opportunity for students to develop their faith through activities and experiences aimed at their level. At the present moment, the retreats are going to take place in term 4. If your child participates in the retreats, we encourage you to use the momentum of the day, to talk to them about the experience and share your own faith experience.
Prayer for the Sick and Elderly
In recent months, a number of members of our school community have lost Grandparents. As a community, I invite you to take a moment to pray for these families and the souls of the recently departed.
Prayer for the Faithful Departed
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
On Friday, year 5 children from St John Vianney’s ventured down to the ELC. During their visit they participated in experiments and spent time getting to know one another. The ELC children and staff have been observing a nest that was built in one of our lemon trees. After seeing the creation of a nest three eggs appeared. On Monday we were surprised with three baby birds.
On Tuesday the Stringray class kicked off our Book Week celebrations with their parade. We look forward to seeing more characters tomorrow as the Lobster and Turtle class join the school in a Book Week parade. The theme this year is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.
Book Week Parade
Children in the Turtle and Lobster classes will be participating in the Book Week Parade tomorrow, Friday 11 September. Children are welcome to dress up as curious creatures or as their favourite book character. Please ensure your child is able to freely move in their costume so that they can participate in active play and physical movement. Unfortunately due to social distancing, we cannot invite parents to view the parade. Thank you to the Stingray children for introducing us to a range of exciting characters and books.
ELC office will be closed during the school holidays, from Saturday 26 September through to Sunday 11 October. Term 4 commences on Monday 12 October.
ELC Holiday Program
The ELC will be running a Holiday Program for ELC children in the upcoming school holidays. Please email the ELC office at firstname.lastname@example.org to book. Please note that Holiday Care bookings cannot be accepted if term fees are outstanding.
Final term 3 ELC fees are due tomorrow, Friday 11 September. We appreciate your efforts to ensure that ELC accounts are paid in full by tomorrow. Please note that ELC Holiday Care Bookings cannot be accepted if term fees are outstanding.

Fete Committee 2021
Hooray, it’s time to plan for sunnier days and with that, comes fete planning. After many years of a relatively small Fete Committee, we have decided to follow the example of many other schools and increase the size of the Fete Committee for 2021. The positions we are looking to fill are:
- Fete Coordinators
- Stall Coordinator
- Set up & Site Coordinator
- Entertainment Coordinator
- Publicity Officer
- General Committee members
It is our intention that by increasing the size of the Fete Committee, we allow earlier planning and reduced workloads for all. Our fete has been hugely successful in past years due to the work of all involved. I would encourage all families at the school and in the wider school community to consider their own contribution to the fete. As we found this year, the strength of our community was evident, and essential, in the challenging times that immediately followed our 2020 fete.
If you are interested in filling any of these positions, or if you would like more information about the specific duties of these roles, please email me at the address below. Planning for the 2021 fete will take into account the possible COVID-19 restrictions that may be in force by term 1 of 2021.
