Society presents our children with constant images of what perfection looks like. This often pushes them towards striving to attain perfection. As adults we have a responsibility to guide the children in our lives, not towards perfection, rather, towards consistent improvement and growth. Our children need to be supported to continue to tweak towards being better today than they were yesterday and we need to model imperfection and growth.
Tomorrow we will hold our annual St Jude’s Walkathon. Please note that the starting time is 12pm. Students will eat lunch first and then begin the walk. A 12 o’clock start, hopefully gives us the best weather of the day. Thank you to all families for supporting this fundraising initiative, especially with the cancellation of the fete. If you are able to join us, we would love to see you. Please feel free to join us for lunch (BYO) and the walk. Remember to check in with the Check In CBR app on arrival. You can either scan the QR Code or enter 942222 manually.
This Sunday we are seeking your support with weeding and mulching our school grounds. The enrolment period begins next week, and we want to make sure that the school looks neat and tidy. If you are able to donate some time, please RSVP to your class parent rep. We need to know numbers to ensure we cater appropriately and to ensure we are appropriately social distanced. We are sub-dividing the school to assist with this. A reminder to please check in on arrival.
We will be holding our open day on Thursday 6 May. Families will be able to tour the school, hosted by our Year 6 leaders, between 9.30am and 11.00am and then again between 4pm and 6pm. If you are available during any of these times, it would be great to have some current parents around to answer questions about why St Jude’s is so awesome. Please contact Natalie or Sharrie in the Primary front office if you are able to assist. A reminder to please check in on arrival.
Next Friday we are inviting all mums to come and join us for a cuppa, juice and pastry. The hall will be open from 8.45am and we would love to have you then join your child in the classroom between 9am and 9.20am. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 restrictions, our time frame will be restricted. If you have more than one child, or are unable to attend, you can send a grandparent, auntie or other significant female. More information and an RSVP will come out via your class parent rep this Friday. A reminder to please check in on arrival.
Parent Teacher Meetings
These are scheduled for week 4 of this term. It would be great if both parents can attend. In previous years, students in years 3 to 6 have also attended, however, this time they will just be for parents and teachers. If you don’t have anyone to look after your children, bring them to the library and we will have staff supervising. We are looking at having a share your learning day in term 3, where students will be able to show mum, dad and grandparents around the classroom and explain some of their learning. This will also be an opportunity to set learning goals for the rest of the year.
Refer to 'Parent – Teacher Interviews 2021' in this newsletter, for details on how to book your Parent - Teacher Interview, and how to check in on arrival.
Your term 2 school fees will be sent out this week. Your prompt attention to this is greatly appreciated.
ANZAC Day Liturgy
Thank you to our Year 5 students who, with the support of a real bugler, were able to lead us through a very reflective experience.
Wishing you God’s love and blessings

A reminder that if your child requires assistance at the Kiss and Drop, please move to the car park to keep the Kiss and Drop line moving forward.
Some parents have been expressing concern about car park etiquette at drop-off/pick up times. Please turn off your engines if you are waiting in your car.
ANZAC Day Liturgy
Thank you to year 5 and their wonderful teachers for a reverent and thoughtful liturgy to commemorate ANZAC Day. Year 5 led the school through a reflective service to remember not only the first ANZAC’s, but all members of our Defence Force who have fought for our country since 1915.

Brigitta van Deas - RE Coordinator
On Tuesday, the Turtle and Stingray classes joined the school for an Anzac liturgy.
Thank you to Woden Valley Gymnastics Club next door for hosting each class for their first gymnastics session this week. The children are all excited for next week’s session. We are also looking forward to a visit from our St John Vianney’s Year 5 buddies next Friday. Our buddy programs provide children with connections and familiarity for their transition into kindergarten whilst also providing Year 5 students with further leadership responsibilities. As well as connecting with students, we value the connections with families and friends. We encourage you to come along to our Working Bee this Sunday (please add your name to the list in the foyer) or to volunteer as a Mystery Reader in person or virtually (rosters are on each classroom window). Family and friends are also welcome.
A reminder that St Jude’s Walkathon is on tomorrow. Your child is invited to wear something a little 'wacky' for the walk - maybe a wig, hat or funny glasses. Your imagination can go as wacky as you like. This is not a uniform free day, just optional accessories that will need to be comfortable enough to walk in. The Stingrays will have their Walkathon on Wednesday 5 May.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Preschool Parent Teacher Interviews will be offered during weeks 9 and 10 of this term. Booking sheets will be available mid term.

On Friday 7 May, a number of students in Year 3 to Year 6 are keen to participate in the Matt Giteau Cup – Rugby Union. We have two coaches/managers (Weir and Orchard families) but are keen to get some more students to make the teams into teams of 14. A note has gone home to interested students which can be located on the website. If your child is interested in joining one of the teams, please let Mrs Thomas know as soon as possible. Training with the Brumbies on Wednesday and then with Mr Orchard/Mr Weir on Wednesday afternoon next week from 3.15-4.15pm.

Walkathon this Friday 30 April
On Friday 30 April, the students will be getting their Wacky Wear for our annual Walkathon. I have seen many parents (and students) at dollar shops around town buying wigs, glitter hats, novelty sunglasses in preparation for Friday.
Please Bring Water Bottles
Thank you for all the parents who have expressed their interest in assisting with checkpoints and water stations on the day. Whilst the Community Council will be manning water stations, we highly recommend that the children bring their own drink bottles to minimise on waste. Last year, mountains of plastic cups were thrown away in the bins and it is truly a waste if the children are just taking a few sips of water. To incentivise the children to be environmentally conscious, bonus house points will be awarded to those who bring their own water bottles or who bring a reusable cup.
The Walkathon is set to be our main fundraiser for the year, so we urge you (and friends and family) to dig deep with your sponsorship. Sponsorship forms are not due until after the Walkathon so there is still plenty of time for the children to find sponsors.
Mother’s Day Stall
Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday 9 May.
The Community Council will be running its annual Mother’s Day Stall on Friday 7 May (two days before Mother’s Day).
All students from K-6, as well as ELC Turtle and Lobster students will have an opportunity to purchase a gift for their Mothers/carers. There will be items available to purchase ranging from $1 to $10. Please mark this in your calendars and send your children to school with money on this day.
There will be a mini stall held for ELC Stingrays on Wednesday 5 May. If you are a parent of a Stingray, please send money in with your child on Wednesday 5 May, so they can purchase something from the mini stall.
Community Council Meeting – Tuesday 4 May at 6pm in the School Library
On Tuesday 4 May at 6pm, we will have a Community Council Meeting that is open to the parent community. As we are not proceeding with the fete, the focus of the meeting is to discuss possible community building opportunities for the year. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please come along or if you are new to the school please join us to meet other parents. Everyone is welcome.
Jessica Adelan-Langford - Community Council Chair

2021 Walkathon – Friday 30 April
Our annual Walkathon is on this Friday 30 April, starting at approximately 12.15pm from school. The walk is almost exactly the same as the Cross Country track. Children are asked to wear their full school sport’s uniform with their hat and sunscreen. A drink will be provided along the route. We encourage children to carry their own water bottle, thus saving the environment on plastic cups!
We also encourage the students to wear something wacky for the walk. SRC are running a best costume prize.
A special Meal Deal lunch is being organised for the children. The Meal Deal forms were due back to school on Tuesday 27 April. Children could order a special “Meal Deal Hamburger lunch” or bring their own lunch from home.
To keep your children safe, we will need parent helpers along the route. Please contact the front office if you can help on Friday or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Children received their sponsorship form at the end of last term (also available under ‘Notes’ on the website). I hope that they can find sponsors to help raise money for our school. Following the walk, the children can return their sponsorship form and money promised in a sealed envelope or on QKR! For every $5 returned, the children will receive a ticket in a raffle where prizes will be given out. The class who raise the most money (pro rata to numbers) will have a treat day at school later in the term.
St Jude’s Wacky Walkathon Walkers
The Student Representative Council has thought of a way to add even more fun to our Walkathon.
They are asking the children to join them as ‘Wacky Walkers’!
Your child is invited to make a wacky addition to their sports uniform to wear as they complete the Walkathon.
Some ideas could include: silly socks, a wig, a tutu, a cape, a funny headband, crazy hairstyle, wacky hat or bow tie. It must be something that won’t impede their ability to walk. Think wacky, but functional!
The SRC members will be awarding prizes for the wackiest walkers.
We cannot wait to see your wacky ideas!

School Banking is every Friday morning, unless advised otherwise.
Please remind your children to place their bank books in their class message folder each Friday morning. This will ensure that their banking will be completed that day.
